Shakhtar vs Chornomorets: players’ opinion

Footballers of the Donetsk team have reflected on the victory over Odesa.

Serhiy Kryvtsov, Shakhtar’s defender:

- We could have won a big scoreline. Unfortunately, at some point in the first half did we had no luck. If we could have scored a quick goal, the game probably would have been easier for us without such a nervous situation. After sending off, the Odesa side sat deep on their half of the field. We had somehow to carve their defence open, so everyone took part in attacking moves, including the centre defenders. After the first goal, everything went as planned. Chornomorets opened, giving us more options for dangerous attacks. In one of the episodes I could have scored. The ball ricocheted off Yaroslav, but I failed to get on it, the goalkeeper played well. But that’s OK. The main thing is that the team have won.

Yaroslav Rakitskiy, Shakhtar’s defender:

- We played very well, the opponents virtually did not have a single chance. But what Chornomorets showed on the field today cannot be called football! They just stood there with the whole team in defence. Therefore, in the first half we failed to score a goal, but created a lot of chances. But, thank God, we scored. And scored five goals! No wonder Mister always tells that if we have a chance, we have to convert. And even when there are ten chances, we need to take advantage of all them.

Douglas Costa, Shakhtar’s midfielder:

- Shakhtar have stepped up their game of late. We are preparing for each match, train - and you see the result. As for today's match, I will say this: everyone knows that everybody plays against us in defence. And Chornomorets are no exception. Therefore, in the first half, we were looking for our rhythm to score in the second. It is great that Ismaily is fine now. But every player taking to the pitch must understand that aggressive situations can happen, and they should be ready for it.
