Shakhtar launch Walk of Fame!

On May 8, the area near the south entrance of the Donbass Arena was unrecognizable. Bright red carpets and a huge white tent complemented the futuristic look of the Pitmen’s home arena. 

Today, the Shakhtar Walk of Fame was launched, with the first four stars being installed. During the Club’s 75-year history, Shakhtar can boast of a truly large number of prominent players and coaches, who faithfully served the team. Today, all the supporters were waiting for the announcement of the four legends whose names would be immortalized in front of the Shakhtar ‘home’. This quartet was selected by a group of experts, consisting of Shakhtar fans, the Club’s veterans and historians.

Opening remarks were made by the Club’s President Rinat Akhmetov:

- Dear friends, I am pleased to welcome you to the opening of the Walk of Fame! I want to say a huge thank you to all those, who glorified Shakhtar Donetsk. We have achieved a lot, but I am deeply convinced that the major victories and major trophies are still to come. We must glorify Shakhtar and Ukraine in Europe and in the world! Good luck, dear friends, on the Shakhtar Walk of Fame!

The moment, when the committee was about to announce the names, was particularly touching. No doubt that for them this moment was one of the most exciting in their lives. Vitaliy Starukhin, Mircea Lucescu, Mykhaylo Sokolovskyy and Yuriy Degteryov are the Club’s icons, whose names now adorn the Pitmen’s Walk of Fame.

The Walk of Fame is opened! This is a great event for all the fans that wish to honour and respect the outstanding history of the Donetsk club. After all, as the saying goes, there is no future without the past - Shakhtar have the both.
