Emergence of a new star

So, on August 27, FC Shakhtar lit another star on the Walk of Fame. This time the Club honoured the Pitmen’s’ supporters!

Thousands of the Donetsk-based team fans dressed in orange and black came to witness the induction ceremony.

- “Our whole family comes to Donetsk from Illovaysk to watch Shakhtar play. We attend every single game! Today, we bought the Champions League “packages” and at the same time we decided to take part in the celebration!” – said one of the Shakhtar fans Sergiy Svitto. – “I think that the supporters are part and parcel of football, and without them there would not be such big victories of our beloved team, which bears a proud name of Shakhtar!”

Meanwhile, the stage was set for the main part of the ceremony. Amid the general rejoicing, the Shakhtar players stepped on the scene, with the Club’s head coach Mircea Lucescu and the president Rinat Akhmetov joining the team’s captain Darijo Srna to install a star dedicated to the Shakhtar fans. The participants of the ceremony were praising the most loyal fans of Shakhtar. Former and current coal miners who are also long-time supporters of the Donetsk team stressed the importance of the side’s good performance as well as underlining the impact it has on their work and daily life.

Then, the celebration reached its most anticipated phase. Rinat Akhmetov, Mircea Lucescu and Darijo Srna showed the world a star dedicated to the Club’s fans. The president’s words you can read here. While wishing the team luck in their upcoming away game in Odesa the Shakhtar supporters performed an unofficial anthem of the Donetsk club - the song called “Spyat kurgany tyomnye.”
