Donbass Arena seriously damaged
At midday on October 20, an explosion was heard in the vicinity of the Donbass Arena. Stadium was significantly damaged.
- As a result of a very powerful explosion, the shock wave caused considerable damage to the western and eastern sides of the arena, - the acting Facilities Director of Donbass Arena Vadim Gun'ko commented on the incident. - Part of the glassed elevation collapsed, with the vast area being critically damaged. The internal space was also affected. We have been recording the damage, blocking the hazardous areas. We have a request to all Donetsk residents: under no circumstances should one approach the northern, western and eastern sides of the stadium, it's not safe at all.
According to Vadim Gun'ko, just miraculously, no one of the Donbass Arena staff and the people on the territory got injured. Later, they will carry out a more accurate study of the state of structures and clarify the feasibility of restoring the stadium facade.
