Humanitarian Centre: transparent mechanism
Work of the Humanitarian Centre of Rinat Akhmetov is comparable to supplying food to the city with a population of about 500,000. Such volumes of purchases and deliveries are the largest of those made for humanitarian purposes. This was stated by the coordinator of Let’s Help centre Rimma Fil at a press briefing on January 14.
- The Centre has not stopped its work even for one day, given the serious tasks set by Rinat Akhmetov in terms of helping their fellow citizens, - pointed out Rimma Fil. - We work as a huge mechanism, as a major logistics centre. Speaking of volumes: no one food manufacturer can fully meet the need of the Centre in any particular product, for example, in cereals or pasta. Our work is transparent. We buy quality goods of Ukrainian producers, constantly looking for the best price for the product to ensure a greater aid volume. Supplier selection is based on e-trading. We have a very careful approach to the composition of our humanitarian sets. And in the case of complaints about their quality, we change the supplier.
The briefing also touched upon the subject of volunteer battalions. Let us remind you that in late December they blocked a convoy with humanitarian supplies. Due to this fact, there was a 10-day delay, and the material damage was comparable to the cost of acquiring three thousand food sets. Now, according to the Humanitarian Centre coordinator, they have achieved the result that has allowed to resume forwarding convoys to Donbas.
- Based on the principle of transparency, we provide the opportunity to the media, international organizations and others, including the battalions, to be present in the monitoring of humanitarian goods, - continues Rimma Fil. – We tried this procedure in late December and early January. All were satisfied with the result. At the end of December, the distribution points and the warehouse at the Donbass Arena were monitored by The Officer Corps organization. We have not received a single claim. Besides, the representatives of the organization currently accompany the humanitarian convoys to the destination - the Donbass Arena stadium.
The importance of timely and uninterrupted deliveries of humanitarian aid to Donbas is due to the dire humanitarian situation in the region. According to the UN, about one million civilians in Donbas are below the poverty line today. It should be noted that during the five months of operation of the Humanitarian Centre of Rinat Akhmetov, we purchased more than 20 thousand tonnes of food for 48 towns and 16 districts of the Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts. We have reported about the further aid plans on the website earlier.
