The Pitmen’s first opponents at the training camp in Spain will be Dinamo Zagreb.

The club was founded in 1945 and has since managed to claim 16 league titles in Croatia. Dynamo also have won 12 domestic Cups and 5 Super Cups. The club is a regular participant in European competitions, however it has not achieved any major success in the international arena since long ago. The Blues boast only the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup 1967.

Since the end of 2013, the team has been coached by the former player Zoran Mamić. Dynamo are the reigning champions of their country. Last season, the Blues triumphed over their being 11 points ahead of the nearest pursuer - Rijeka. Of course, the team from Zagreb showed the greatest effectiveness, having notched 83 goals against their opponents. The striker Duje Cop, who currently plays for Cagliari Calcio, Italy, became the league’s top scorer back then.

It is interesting that Shakhtar Donetsk and Dinamo Zagreb, Croatia once met in a competitive game. It happened in the 3rd qualifying round of the 2008/09 Champions League season. Back then, the Pitmen celebrated a 2-0 home win (the goals were scored by Srna and Jadson), consolidating their success away – 3-1 (through the precision shots by Adriano, Brandao and Willian).

We also want to add that Shakhtar’s former striker Eduardo used to play for Zagreb-based Dinamo.
