The encounter opening was very promising for the Orange-and-Blacks. In the first half, the Donetsk team had numerous chances, converting two of them. On 19 minutes, Adamenko’s quick move ended successfully after he flicked in a corner at the front post. A couple of minutes later, the Pitmen orchestrated a blistering counterattack, with Matviyenko passing it behind the defenders and Boryachuk producing a spectacular one-touch finish vs Kharkiv from the edge of the penalty area.

After the break, Shakhtar continued creating chances, slowing down towards the end of the game. The following punishment was very severe – on 78 minutes, Duts deflected a threatening cross into the back of the net, with the Pitmen subsequently missing the victory after conceding a last-minute goal.

After the match, we talked to the Pitmen’s captain Ihor Duts:

- In the first half we completely outplayed the opponents, the score could have been bigger than 2-0. At half-time, we agreed to continue it in the same vein, but the opposite happened. We began to play football which is unusual for us, sending long balls too often and making numerous errors. We began to yield to the opponents. All this led to conceding goals. Of course, it’s disappointing to miss the win in the dying minutes. The team is upset, but we must draw the right conclusions to prevent such errors in the future.

- We knew the level of responsability we had on this game. It would have been important to show some stability on the team behaviours from the beggining to the end in order to achieve the result we wanted. Unfortunately we were not able to show this and despite a strong entrance in the game, according to what we had planned, achieving a quick result of 2-0, we weren't able to keep the way and the focus on the tactical commitment. We started making mistakes in simple situations, exactly in the moment where simplicity of procedures was required to create more goal situations. I'm really unsatisfied with the second half where we showed lack of ambition in a moment where we should and could have controled the game and played good football. As result we were penalized by an own goal and a goal in the last minutes of the game, producing a result that, in the context, doesn't satisfy at all, - Shakhtar U-21 head coach Miguel Cardoso commented on the match outcome.
