Introducing opponents: Aris
On Sunday, March 29, the Pitmen will play their second friendly game in Cyprus. The Pitmen will face FC Aris.
The club from the city of Limassol was founded in 1930 and is one of the oldest clubs in Cyprus. Its colours are white and green.
In the 1976/77 season, the association of sports journalists named Aris the team of the year, and in the 1988/89 season the club played in the final of the domestic Cup against AEL. The team from Limassol lost in that game only after extra time - 3:2. Aris are 5-time winners of the second division of the Cyprus league: in the seasons 1953/54, 1955/56, 1993/94, 2010/11, 2012/13.
It is noteworthy that in the season 1989/90 Oleg Blokhin defended the colours of this team. He played 22 games for Aris, scoring 5 goals. At the time the team also featured Bulgarians Hristo Yovov and Radostin Stanev.
Now Aris have 46 points after 24 games. This result allows the team of Limassol to sit in third place of the domestic championship.
