On 16 December, the Pitmen’s opponents in the Champions League played on Matchday 16.

Bayern: Neuer, Rafinha, Benatia (Boateng, 39), Bonfim, Bernat, Robben, Alonso (Shaqiri, 60), Ribery, Goetze, Muller, Lewandowski (Schweinsteiger, 46)

It was Freiburg who could have opened the scoring in this match: on 14 minutes, Gunther was put through but at the last moment Rafinha managed to block him.

It was everything what Freiburg managed to create, whereas Bayern’s chances were becoming more dangerous. On 41 minutes, the German champions scored the opener. Alonso sent a high ball into the penalty area. Ribery and Robben managed to beat the offside trap, the former fed the latter for Robben to head the ball in. After a couple of minutes, Bayern had another chance to score but Muller hit the goalpost following an Alonso pass.

After the break, Robben sent the ball into the penalty area for Bernat, who hit the crossbar. Muller seized on the rebound to make it 2-0. Bayern got a confident win.

It should be noted that Josep Guardiola had make one forced substitution, bringing on Boateng for Benatia, who was unable to continue the game in the first half.
