Before match
Shakhtar played their first semi-final Cup game in Dnipropetrovsk. Mircea Lucescu made a number of changes compared to the recent game with Dynamo. One should note the appearance of Hladkyi, Marlos, Dentinho and Fernando in the starting line-up. The game for Srna was especially special. Darijo made his 445 appearance for Shakhtar, and now he is second Shakhtar’s player in the ranking of the Pitmen with the highest number of games (Serhiy Yaschenko played 444 games, Mykhailo Sokolovskiy – 485).
First half
In the opening stages of the game, Dentinho was in the spotlight. The Brazilian regularly took part in the Pitmen’s attacks, forcing opponents to commit fouls, plus coming close to finishing off dangerous crosses into the penalty area. On 25 minutes, Teixeira had an excellent opportunity to score, but after his shot, Boyko made a save. Konoplyanka posed the biggest threat from Dnipro . Just before the half time, Yevhen took a decent shot shot towards the far corner but missed the target. After a minute, Shakhtar took the lead: Hladkyi put away a cross from the corner of the pitch first time to make it 1-0.
Second half
The goal conceded at home forced Dnipro go forward. That was what Markevych’s charges were doing straight after the break, and as early as on 48 minutes they won a penalty kick after Rakitskiy’s tackle on Rotan. However, Pyatov managed to parry away a shot from Seleznyov towards centre! With time, Shakhtar managed to make the game more even. On 63 minutes, Fred, who came on as a sub, created a chance for Teixeira, who beat Guye, but sent the ball wide of the far post. In turn, Dnipro’s attacking attempts were stopped by a confident gam from Pyatov and defence. In the stoppage time Fedetskiy got on the rebound to send the ball into the corner of the net but Shakhov was flagged offside. The Pitmen claim a 1-0 away win in the away game of the first semi-final game.
