Mircea Lucescu: Bayern and Milan signed very good players

Shakhtar’s head coach has commented on Douglas Costa’s and Luiz Adriano’s transfers.

- Bayern have made a very good signing. They have signed one of the best young players in world football. I am very proud that Douglas will defend the colours of such a top club. He has made a very honourable gesture of coming to say goodbye to Shakhtar, each player individually and all together. It tells about his character and upbringing. Costa has a whole set of qualities that are needed to succeed at Bayern: magnificent dribbling, high pace, excellent shooting. He is a versatile player; he can play both on the right and on the left flank. Douglas deserves to be in the company of such decorated players as Robben and Ribery; it's a great honour. I am sure that Bayern’s fans will love him. The past season turned out to be not very good for Shakhtar, because we did not have an opportunity to play at the home stadium. We were constantly playing away... It is not surprising that good players want to leave, considering such a situation.

The same can be said about Adriano; Milan made a good signing and got a top player. I believe that the Italian league will help Luiz prove himself well and cement his place in the national team. He is one of those players, who rarely gets injured. He is a powerful footballer; he plays great in the air. Despite the fact that he is not tall, Adriano plays as if his height is about two meters! He fights for the ball in the penalty area, with always looking for opportunities to net a goal. He is a proper striker. This is a great transfer for Milan. I regret that such players leave. Of course, I would like them to stay with me, with Shakhtar. But at the same time, I understand that today the Ukrainian league cannot offer them a really high level of football. By the way, because of that, we cannot sign quality footballers - top players refuse to play in this league. If the format is changed, maybe it will be possible. But at the moment it is quite natural that the players move to stronger leagues.
